Artefact Home|Garden – an oasis of laid-back glamour and greater Boston’s most sublime new design shop is hosting “The Importance of Being Local” on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012.  This event celebrates local design and gives guests an opportunity to mingle with the artisans and learn about their work.

Artefact Home|Garden believes great design is created everywhere and while some of the beautiful pieces showcased in their shop are sourced globally, many are designed and crafted in the USA. “We are delighted when we find distinctive design and superb craftsmanship in the Northeast,” states Sue Walsh, co-owner of Artefact. “By showcasing the works of these craftsmen in early November, we hope to provide inspiration and ideas for holiday decorating and gift giving, as well as an afternoon of laughs and good cheer.”

Featured in “The Importance of Being Local”:

  • South Street Linens, Portland, ME – 12noon to 5pm – hand printed pillows, napkins and table runners in linen
  • Ray Bachand, 60 Nobscot, Sudbury, MA – 12noon to 5pm – serving boards and fine furniture crafted from reclaimed wood
  • Nancy Hart, Belmont, MA – 12noon to 5pm – showing her new collection BLUE
  • Shawn Laughlin, Caskata, Sherbourne, MA – afternoon – porcelain tableware & vases, designs from the natural world, painted in 23 karat gold and platinum
  • Ryan & Wood Distilleries, Gloucester, MA – 1pm to 4pm – craft distillers of artisan vodka, rum and gin. Artefact will be serving Folly Cove Rum punch

Other local vendors featured at Artefact Home|Garden include Pennoyer Newman, fine planters cast from estate originals, created in New York, NY; LBK, Laura Kramer, blown glass made in Providence, RI; Dunes & Duchess, candelabras & lighting; and Alison Evans, tableware with ‘oyster crystal’  glazing, Yarmouth, ME.

Artefact Home|Garden is an artfully curated collection of unique furniture and lighting, tableware and textiles, garden containers and ornaments and quirky but-oh-so-practical objects.  Exciting lines such as  Verellen, Joe Cariati, Airedelsur, Montes Doggett and Leslie Anton as well as works from the ateliers of emerging designers and artisans are available. Artefact Home l Garden also offers a small garden and container design and installation service, floral design, and home styling.

“The Importance of Being Local” is free and open to the public and takes place Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 10AM to 6PM.

Artefact Home|Garden is located at 1000 Pleasant St., Belmont, MA and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm.
