It only takes Boston one day after Thanksgiving to get into the holiday spirit. Embrace the festivities starting with the tree lighting at Macy’s Downtown Crossing. At 5 p.m. the tree will be lit outside the store and onlookers can enjoy performances by The Boston Children’s Choir, Grammy-nominated R&B singer Keri Hilson, and Indie pop/rock duo Heffron Drive. If you do any holiday shopping while you’re there, Macy’s will throw in a free gift.

From there, take to the seas for a Cocoa & Carols Cruise on Classic Harbor Line’s vessel Northern Lights. The luxury yacht will be dressed to the nines in festive decorations and you can dance to (or just sit back and enjoy) jazzy holiday tunes performed by The Benjamin Young Quartet. Hot cocoa and treats will be provided to keep you cozy during the cruise around the Boston Harbor.

Check out the Museum of Science’s newest temporary exhibit “All Aboard! Trains at Science Park.” The show delves into a winter wonderland of miniature trains in three different scales and styles. Kids can create their own tracks, engineer a layout, and move trains throughout their routes. Expert model train makers will be on hand to answer questions about the art and science behind their craft. Don’t forget: You can get free passes at your local Boston Public Library branch.
