Shake things up a bit before Valentine’s Day with a candlelit crypt tour at King’s Chapel in downtown Boston. This eerie-in-the-best-way history tour delves into the traditions of love, loss and laying your loved one to rest. After all, what says eternal love more than wearing jewelry made out of your spouse’s hair? This special Valentines’ edition of the tour is only available during February, so scoop up that funerary history while you can!

Walk 15 minutes to the North End for a romantic dinner at the newly opened Forcella Italian restaurant. Start the meal off with crispy quail in pomegranate balsamic molasses or poached lobster bisque. Then, try one of the house-made pastas or a carefully crafted entrée. Forcella (which means “fork” in Italian) also offers a daily risotto and an impressive Italian wine list.

Start your day off with a caffeine jolt at this a coffee tasting at Boston-based Pavement Coffeehouse roastery. Sample Pavement’s full line-up of coffees, as well as some flavors that haven’t been released yet in the company’s cafes. Now, when you visit any of Pavement’s locations, you’ll know exactly which brew is your favorite! Although the event is free, we recommend registering in advance. It’s sure to fill up fast.

While you’re in the Western Avenue neighborhood, pop next door to see the impressive 170-foot long mural, titled “Evo,” by local artist David Teng Olsen. Olsen spent five years working as a bioengineer and scientific illustrator; you can see that left-brained background at work in his geometric piece. Patches of black and white illustration peek out from between bold fields of colors for a fun, eclectic viewing experience.

Walk two minutes across the street for brunch at Article 24. The American restaurant focuses on a delicious accessible menu, craft cocktails and entertainment. On Sunday, there is a music-themed brunch with a live DJ. Try pumpkin pancakes topped with graham cracker crumbs, golden raisins and maple syrup, or, go savory with a lobster ‘mac-muffin’ supplemented with cheddar and bacon.

Taste supplies the cookies and decorating supplies, all you have to do is bring your inspiration! Your ticket also includes a light lunch featuring apple and pear fennel salad, assorted flatbreads, pasta and mac ’n’ cheese. Kids get a nonalcoholic beverage, while adults can have their treat in the form of a complimentary house wine, beer or cider.
